Businesses at Ballina centre to be consulted on planned changes

Cllr Michael Loftus

Ballina Municipal District is to invite businesspeople operating in the Kennedy Glasgow Centre and the wider Quay area to engage in consultation in relation to any works planned for the area.

Cllr Michael Loftus told last week's meeting of the authority that while the council has plans for the area, it would be important to allow the business people operating there to give their own perspective on any proposed works.

“They are quite keen to put their points across," he explained. "Their landlord is Moy Valley Resources and the property is owned by Mayo County Council.”

Cllr Marie Therese Duffy seconded the proposal to invite the businesses operating in the centre and at the Quay to a meeting.

"They can come in and share their vision for the future of that area because they are the tenants, they are secure in the community there, they are working hard and their businesses thriving, but they want to be consulted and to be part of the planning process for any future development there.”

She added that the businesses make a massive positive contribution to the Quay and Ballina in general and it would be important to hear their ideas on how to enhance the space.

The manager of the Ballina Municipal District Declan Turnbull said the meeting could be arranged and invited Cathaoirleach Cllr Jarlath Munnelly to set a date. It was also agreed that Moy Valley Resources would be invited to the meeting.
