The Ballina community came together on Thursday, February 13, for a fundraising quiz and raffle in support of the Water for Gaza Project, raising an impressive €4,000 at a packed Cot and Cobble.
The event drew 25 teams, with attendance so high that guests spilled into an additional room. Quizmaster Terry McCole kept the energy lively, ensuring a fun and engaging night for all involved.
The winning team was made up of Neil McCole, Paul Tighe, Susan Heffernan and Micheal O’Boyle.
The highlight of the evening came when Jenny Graham addressed the crowd, sharing her experiences working on the ground in Gaza.
She spoke about the urgent need for clean water and how the funds raised would directly support families and a kindergarten in increasingly desperate conditions. Her short speech was met with strong support and empathy from those present, reflecting the deep concern many in Ballina feel about the crisis facing Palestinians.
The event was made possible by the generosity of local businesses and individuals, who contributed a wide range of raffle prizes and donations. People were eager to contribute, and the overwhelming support on the night demonstrated the strong sense of justice and humanitarian spirit within the community.
This fundraiser also comes amid growing calls for greater political action, with many in the community hoping that this event sends out a clear message that Ballina stands firmly in solidarity with Palestine.
