A sprocker dog who found a new lease of life after being adopted from a Mayo rescue service is putting her best paw forward in hopes of winning Pet Sitters Ireland’s Nose of Tralee competition.

Seventeen-month-old Molly burst into the life of her new best friend Grainne Armstrong six months ago, having been taken in and taken care of by the North West SPCA in Ballina.

“I sadly lost two springer spaniels last year, both 14 years of age, and I swore I’d never get a dog again,” Grainne told The Western People.

“But then I saw North West had a post up about Molly and nobody was making a play for her and I thought, you know what, I’ll go and meet her.” It was love at first sight as Grainne and Molly became fast friends.

“I had stopped walking since the other dogs passed away, and I really loved walking, but she has got me active again. She is full of energy and delighted with life.

“I’ve rescued all my dogs from North West over the years. I have so much time for them; they really do amazing work.

“She had been in a kennel up in Longford and was being taken care of by Laura from LCA Strokestown; she did brilliant work with rehabilitating Molly.”

Molly has brought a lot of excitement to Grainne’s life since she came to her new home in Ballina and is now hoping to complete her ‘wags’ to riches story by winning the Nose of Tralee.

The competition is a nationwide search to find Ireland’s cutest, funniest or most adorable pet, competing against cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters and more from across the land with incredible prizes on offer.

One-third of the vote is down to public voting, and voting is open until June 29 at midnight.
