Swinford GAA presenting a donation of €838 to the Swinford Branch of the Mayo Roscommon Hospice. This generous amount was raised through Swinford GAA’s Annual St Stephen's Day tournament which was a fantastic day filled with great fun, community spirit, and some friendly competition. This donation will go a long way in supporting the amazing work of the Mayo Roscommon Hospice and Swinford GAA Club are honoured to contribute to such a worthy cause.

The next meeting of Swinford Book Club will take place on February 19, at 3.30pm in Swinford Library. The book Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese will be discussed. New members always welcome.
In conjunction with the Swinford FC Jungle Challenge Paul Halligan will climb Croagh Patrick on Sunday, February 23, at 10am. Swinford Killasser LGFA are looking for recruits of all ages and abilities to take part in Gaelic 4 Mothers and Others. No experience needed, just come and be part of the fastest growing grade in ladies football. A fun and enjoyable atmosphere guaranteed but also room for the more competitive. The numbers drawn in the Swinford Community Lotto draw held on February 10, were; 10, 11, 25 and 26. There was no jackpot winner. €70 vouchers were won by June Kilkelly and Máire Lambe, Main Street; €35 was won by Matt Spragg, Oak Drive. The jackpot is now €3,400.
Results of Swinford Golf Clubhouse 25 Drive on Thursday, February 6, were: 1st and 2nd prize shared by Noreen Geraghty, Eileen Geraghty, Michael Ryan and Francis Rowley; 3rd prize was shared by John Gallagher, Brian McNulty, Phyllis Bredican and Nuala Kilgallon Raffle prizes were won by Ann Rowley, Annie McNeela, Michael O’Neill and Michael Regan. Michael Davitt CCE (Swinford Comhaltas) music and singing classes are held on Saturday mornings in Scoil Muire agus Treasa (Swinford NS). Swinford AC will hold a table quiz in Julians of Midfield on Friday, March 7, at 9pm. Tables of 4 cost €40. There are some fantastic prizes to be won and all proceeds go to Swinford Athletics Club Track Development.

Kilmovee
The death took place of Ita McCabe, Brusna, Ballaghaderreen, on January 16, peacefully yet unexpectedly at Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar. Ita nee Jackman, was a native of Thomastown, County Kilkenny.
Ita and her husband were the owners of the Brusna Inn public house for many years and they ran a thriving business over the years and they were a very popular couple in the village. They operated the business when there were very few phones or cars in the locality.
Ita was a lovely lady so helpful kind and generous with her time and talents, she was always in good spirits and wore a beautiful smile. She was a lady in every sense, someone who worked hard and spent many long days and much of the night taking care of her immediate family in conjunction with all her customers and her large circle of friends.
The practice of her faith was very important to her and she relied on this faith to help her through her many challenges in her life. Ita was predeceased by her beloved daughter Sandra McCann, her sister Marie Flynn, her brother Denis Jackman, step-sisters Ellen Overy, Nina O'Mara, Catherine Bartlett, step-brothers Eamonn and Gerry Long. She is survived by her husband Seamus, sons John and Seamus, grandchildren Paul, Cian, Chloe, David, Shauna, Oisin, Zara and Leah, son-in-law Martin, Seamus' former partner Michelle, John's former partner Breege, her sister Margaret Quinn (Fethard, Co. Tipperary), relatives, neighbours and her many friends.
Ita reposed in The Kilgarriff Funeral Home, Ballaghaderreen on Sunday, January 19, from 5pm concluding with evening prayer at 7pm. Removal took place from her home on Monday, January 20, to arrive at The Church of the Sacred Heart, Brusna for Mass of the Resurrection at 11.30am, followed by interment in Naomh Mobhí cemetery, Kilmovee. May Ita rest in peace as sympathy is offered to all who are bereaved.
A special Wedding Anniversary celebration took place in St Nathy’s Cathedral on Sunday, February 9, at 3pm to honour all married couples, special anniversaries and engaged couples this year. Bishop Kevin Doran led this celebration. There were refreshments in St Nathy’s College afterwards.
The death took place of Michael Duffy, Knockview Cottage, Carralackey, Kilmovee, on December12, 2024 peacefully, at his home surrounded by his family. Michael is survived by his wife Sarah, daughter Bridget (Reid), Sarah’s son Dominic, sister Kathleen, grandchildren Scarlette, Sonny and Talia, son-in-law Tommy, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and many friends.
Michael reposed in The Sharkey Funeral Home, Ballaghaderreen on Sunday, December15, 2024 from 5 until 7pm. Removal took place from his home on Monday, December 16, at 10.30am to The Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kilmovee, arriving for Mass of the Resurrection at 11am, followed by interment in Naomh Mobhí cemetery. May Michael rest in peace as sympathy is offered to all who are bereaved by his passing.

Moy Davitts LGFA are seeking expressions of interest for a Gaelic for Mothers and Others (G4MO) team for 2025, for mothers and other women aged 25+. G4MO is a great opportunity to enjoy Gaelic football in a fun non-competitive, social way. There is no experience needed so if you’re up for a bit of craic, get in touch with any member of the executive.
