Tuar Mhic Eadaigh take U21 title

It's been 25 years since Tuar Mhic Eadaigh club won an U21 title but the recent D final victory Shrule Glencorrib made up for the long wait. It was a thrilling game and a close contest which ended in extra time. There was little between the teams throughout. Scores from Luke Lydon (3), Harry Barker (2), Mícheál Prendergast (1) and Seán Seoighe (1) in the first half as well as a terrific goal save from Páraic Ó’Neill ensured the two teams were level at half time, Tuar Mhic Éadaigh 0-7, Shrule Glencorrib 1-4.

The second half was a tense affair with only one score, a free from Harry Barker, in the first 20 minutes leaving Tuar Mhic Éadaigh trailing by an astonishing 6 points with 8 minutes to go. The Tuar Mhic Eadaigh lads then showed huge character, self-belief and steely resolve to bring themselves back into contention - a point each from Mícheál Prendergast (1), Luke Lydon (1) and a free from Harry Barker (1) left only a goal in it. That opportunity came in the 30th minute with a goal from Conall MacGabhann and once again the sides were level. Tuar Mhic Éadaigh had a few late chances in standard time to win but it wasn't to be and a further 20 minutes of extra time was needed to separate the sides. The full time score was - Tuar Mhic Éadaigh 1-11, Shrule Glencorrib 2-8.

Shrule Glencorrib got off to a great start with two unanswered points leaving it all to do in the 2nd half. Points from Míchaél Prendergast and Luke Lydon brought the sides level again. A goal from Shrule was followed quickly by a Daniel Tiernan goal which left nothing between the teams for the 6th time. But it wasn't over yet - a well worked point from Luke Lydon assisted by Aaron Jennings sealed an epic one point win for Tuar Mhic Éadaigh and the elusive U21 Championship title. There are few celebrations to equal a small rural club winning a county title after a lengthy famine. Congrats to all.
