Galway Junior B 12-a-Side Championship – Round 2

Castlebar Mitchels 3-12

Mountbellew/Moylough 1-16

Castlebar Mitchels junior camogie team secured a hardfought two-point victory over Mountbellew/Moylough on Friday evening, producing an excellent second-half performance to overturn a four-point half-time deficit under lights.

Mountbellew /Moylough hit the ground running, capitalising on a number of frees conceded by Mitchels. Their ever-reliable free-taker made no mistake, keeping the scoreboard ticking over.

Mitchels responded with a strong spell of their own, with Niamh Kennedy, Brona Joyce and substitute Hannah Hauttmann all contributing scores. However, it was Mountbellew /Moylough who went into the interval in front, leading 1-9 to 0-8.

The Red and Yellow came out after the break with renewed determination and produced a superb second-half display. Hannah Hauttmann led the charge with an outstanding 1-4, while Rachel Peoples and Brona Joyce both found the net as Mitchels turned the game on its head.

Mountbellew /Moylough refused to give up the fight and continued to make Mitchels work hard for the victory. The Dooley sisters were excellent in winning possession around the middle sector, while the Deely sisters made a number of vital clearances from the back line. An outstanding performance also came from Mary Ellen Ruane, the youngest player on Friday night’s panel, who played at corner back with the composure and confidence of a seasoned veteran.
