It was a good week on the playing fields for Ballintubber Club. Pride of Place goes to the U16 “A” team who won the West Mayo U16 title beating rivals Westport after a titanic battle on the scorline 2-16 to 3-12. Amazingly Westport was 10pts up in the 1st minute of the second half with the scorline 3-10 to 1-6. However the Westport keeper was black carded for what appeared an intentional pull down and thereafter Ballintubber were a changed side. They stormed into the game hitting 1-6 without reply. Thereafter they continued to press and in a swelter of excitement they held on for a gallant 1point victory on the scorline 2-16 to 3-12. One thing can be said with certainty, both these clubs possess fine players at this level and there are certain to be some great duels between them in the years ahead.
In Division 1B of the senior league played on the Saturday evening Ballintubber had a comprehensive victory over Burrishoole. Though the Newport side started well, Ballintubber settled fast and played some scintillating football in the course of the hour. This ensured they will be playing in the top flight of league football in 2026. Ballintubber can rest assured however those East Mayo kingpins, Charlestown will provide a far more stern challenge at the commencement of the senior championship on August 9.
