Theatre and Music fans will have the opportunity to see two unique, inspiring, and highly entertaining performances at Ballina Art Centre this week.
On Thursday 16th, Peter Gowan will perform his exceptional one man show Declan’s Got Talent and on Saturday 18th, Jerry Fish, the former frontman of an Emotional Fish, will bring all his all theatrical brilliance to the performance of his first new album in 15 years.
Declan’s Got Talent is a new dark comedy in which we meet Declan who lives on his own, but is never alone. He wants to prove to himself, and to his constant companion, that he has got what it takes. After years of suffering from a lack of confidence, he has decided to “Go for it” and audition for a talent show. As Declan wrestles with the other presence in his life, we are dragged back into East Cork/West Waterford in the late Sixties to witness his attempts to enter the church, cope with his infatuations, and triumph over this negative friend. The play is presented as part of First Fortnight Festival 2025.
Jerry Fish has captivated audiences worldwide, since the 1990’s, as the frontman of An Emotional Fish. The indie legend has recently returned to music with his first album in 15 years. Dreaming of Daniel, featuring MayKay (Fight Like Apes), is due for release in November 2024. The album is a tribute to the late Daniel Johnston whose songs inspire Jerry’s live performances. Known for theatrical shows blending music, carnival, and circus, Jerry’s performances are always special, and audiences can look forward to tracks from the album as well as fan favourites.
