Enniscrone has seen a summer filled with environmentally minded art activities provided by artist Bernie Colhoun’s project ‘Coastal Connections’.
The project now invites the local community to the grand opening of its culminating gallery exhibition on Friday, August 9th, at 6pm in Abhainn Studio, Enniscrone. The exhibition will be officially opened by Olivia Jones, Clean Coast North West Coordinator.
Coastal Connections is a collaborative project spearheaded by artist Bernie Colhoun with support from Abhainn Studio, Enniscrone Tidy Towns & Clean Coasts group. Funded by Creative Ireland and Sligo County Council, this initiative has harnessed the power of art to inspire positive change and environmental awareness in the community.
In June and July, artist Bernie Colhoun led art workshops where participants engaged in beach walks, clean-ups, and sketching local flora and fauna. These sketches were transformed at her art studio ‘Facets Studio’ into eco-friendly lino prints displayed as flags along the shoreline, turning Enniscrone Beach into an outdoor art space.
The upcoming gallery exhibition at Abhainn Studio will showcase the stunning artworks created during the workshops, including framed prints on paper and the textile works from the beach showcase. Participants will share their experiences, emphasizing the collaborative spirit that has driven the project’s success.
The exhibition runs until August 14th.
