Fans of both Jazz and Trad will be excited by the world-renowned line-up of musicians at Ballina Arts Centre this coming weekend.

On Friday night, May 15, the centre will host the launch of ‘Middle of Life’, the second album from Les Muller (Flute) and David Munnelly (Accordion/Piano). These two internationally celebrated talents are known for their distinctive sound, and the unique interpretation they bring to their instruments.

‘Middle of Life’ was recorded in October in the lovely town of Vianen, in the Netherlands, and much of the material was arranged in Matt Molloy's pub in Westport, inspired by the beauty of Ireland’s west coast. The theme of this album is the passage of time. It is their expression of growth in life, and in music - the experience of living, of aging, and of hearing new music along the way.

Their musical language is a continuation of the love and respect they have for the Irish and Breton tradition, further influenced by music from North America and Sweden, and played with great depth and freedom.

Tickets for the Ballina concert are priced €18/€16 (plus booking fee) and are available via the box office on 096-73593.

The following evening, on Saturday May 16, the internationally celebrated Levy/Robson Quartet will visit the centre as part of an Irish tour showcasing their new album. Filled with original tunes, the album was inspired by visits to Italy and the UK, and includes music penned by both Levy and Robson.

The set is innovative and contemporary, whilst retaining a highly melodic groove. It combines a keen sense of tradition with the diverse characteristics of each composer. The touring line-up includes Jed Levy (tenor saxophone), Phil Robson (guitar), Mark Hodgson (bass), and Shane O’Donovan on drums.

Seating for the event will be café style with no assigned seats, so come early to ensure a good table. Tickets are €20 plus booking fee and there is an offer of a ticket and and a CD for €29 plus booking fee. See website for details.
