Homecoming gig for talented Mayo singer

Cathal Gavin will perform at Westport House on Saturday next, October 12.

Renowned singer Cathal Gavin takes his next step in the music world with an exclusive concert at Westport House on Saturday next, October 12. The talented Swinford singer has been writing his own songs over the past year and will unveil some of his new original material before an already sold-out concert in historic Westport House.

Now 22, Cathal is set to launch an exciting new chapter in his musical journey - one that marks his transformation from an accomplished boy soprano into a fully-fledged artist with a unique voice and vision.

“I have been collaborating with some of the music industry’s leading creative teams in Dublin over the past number of months and it has been a huge opportunity and one that I have been relishing” he enthused.

“It is a real honour to stage this very special event at Westport House and I am looking forward to stepping into the spotlight again with a fresh new sound and share some of my new original material. Staging the concert at Westport House will be an immense experience and I am grateful to the Hughes family for giving me such a warm reception."

The upcoming Westport concert will be under the masterful guidance of musical director and Belcarra native Kathy Fahey and backed by a dazzling seven-piece band. Cathal will deliver a set of handpicked songs alongside his new original music. This reimagined 'Cathal' is a one-night-only concert in his native county and when tickets went for sale online at Eventbrite, they were sold out in no time.

The Swinford native is in his final year studying a BSc Degree in Aviation Management with Pilot Studies at Dublin City University. Despite having considerable musical opportunities, he has kept his feet firmly on the ground and has focused on his third-level education whilst songwriting and working with some of the leading music producers in the capital.

Bursting onto the scene at just 13 years old, Cathal released an album in aid of local charity – Foxford and District Alzheimer’s Trust. Voice of an Angel quickly captured the hearts of so many who enjoyed his extraordinary voice and heartfelt performances. Subsequent charitable appearances across Ireland went in support of various local causes.

Over the past nine years, Cathal has honed his craft, performing on some prestigious stages and sharing the spotlight with leading artists. One of his most memorable performances came at the 2019 World Youth Day in Panama City, Central America where he was the youngest Irish artist ever to perform at the global event, which was attended by Pope Francis and broadcast to millions of viewers worldwide.

In addition to his live performances, Cathal has made his mark with powerful recordings. His debut single, Forever Young, released in July 2021, broke into the iTunes Top 100 Charts, with its Irish-pop sound and Celtic twist making it a hit.

Leading on from that, Cathal’s reimagined version of the iconic hit, I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing - released as Christmas Wish - captured the spirit of the festive season and gained international airplay in over 60 countries.
