The Foxford Traditional Weekend makes a welcome return once again this year from Thursday to Sunday, October 16 to 19,  bringing together world-class musicians, singers, and dancers in a captivating celebration of Irish culture and heritage.

For four unforgettable days, Foxford will come alive with the sounds of traditional music, the energy of dance, and the warmth of community gatherings. With more than 45 events and workshops spread across the town, the festival promises something for everyone, from tots to seniors, seasoned musicians to curious first-timers.

Festival-goers can look forward to a rich programme of concerts, workshops, masterclasses, storytelling sessions, a rambling house, a lively session trail, and family-friendly activities that honour traditions passed down through generations while creating new memories for the future.

The celebrations begin on Thursday, October 16, with the Rambling House, a nostalgic evening of music, stories, and song. On Friday, October 17, the headline concert features The High Seas – Caitlín Nic Gabhann, Ciarán Ó Maonaigh, Cathal Ó Curráin, and John Mulholland – joined by Seoda, winners of Siansa Gael Linn.

Saturday’s highlights include Harp Day in partnership with Harp Ireland and Music Generation Mayo, a colourful Mummers’ Parade through Foxford’s Main Street, and the Féile Concert, starring the Smyth Family, Alannah Thornburgh (Folk Musician of the Year), and The Achill Lads.

The weekend concludes on Sunday, October 19, with family-focused events such as Trad for Tots and Trad from the Moy, showcasing local youth talent. Meanwhile, the Session Trail will keep music flowing throughout the town’s pubs and venues all weekend.

Festival director Stephen Doherty commented: “Foxford has always had music at its heart, and this festival is about celebrating that tradition while inspiring the next generation. We are proud to welcome such an incredible line-up of artists and to create a space where community, culture, and creativity thrive side by side.”

Speaking ahead of the festival, Maureen Noone, of the Moy Hotel, said:

“We are so proud to see the Foxford Traditional Weekend continue to grow. This year’s programme is one of our biggest yet, with 45 events taking place across the four days. The atmosphere in the town is always incredible, and it’s wonderful to see both locals and visitors come together to share in the joy of traditional music.”

Mairéad Melody Carr, manager of Mayo North Tourism, added: “Festivals like the Foxford Traditional Weekend bring people, culture, and place together in such a meaningful way. They not only celebrate the best of Irish tradition but also support our local communities, tourism, and businesses. We’re delighted to see Foxford showcasing its talent and heritage on such a scale.”

With a diverse line-up of concerts, workshops, and activities for all ages, the Foxford Traditional Weekend promises to be an unforgettable cultural experience. It is a vital opportunity for Foxford and its surrounding areas to showcase their rich heritage and foster community spirit.

The Foxford Traditional Weekend is organised by a dedicated voluntary committee who are passionate about nurturing and promoting traditional Irish music in the area.
