Ballina Arts Centre has treats for theatre fans

John McDwyer's 'The Pension Plan' will be performed at Ballina Arts Centre in June.
Theatre fans have two excellent productions to look forward to in June and July at Ballina Arts Centre.
Windmill Players are back on June 7th and 8th with Brian Friel’s ‘Dancing at Lughnasa’. Michael Evans recounts the events of autumn 1936, when he was seven and visiting his aunts cottage during the Celtic festival of Lughnasa. He recalls those late summer days when love seemed briefly possible for the Mundy sisters, while the erratic behaviour of their older brother, Fr Jack, who has recently returned from Uganda, causes upheaval.
The unexpected appearance of Michael’s charming but completely unreliable father, Gerry, also keeps Michael and his mother in suspense. Sligo Based, Windmill Players have successfully toured this production throughout the West, and this is your opportunity to see it in Ballina.
On July 9th, the award-winning Beeznees Theatre company present ‘The Pension Plan’, the latest offering from John McDwyer (
). The bachelor Flanagan brothers’ lives of peace and contentment on their hillside farm are bothered only by the persistent efforts of their spinster neighbour, Ann Catherine, to marry either or both of them. When a visiting stranger brings news that threatens to turn their world upside down, salvation may come from an unlikely source, but at what price? The author directs Barry Deignan, Gerry Farrell, Pat Feeley and Valerie Traynor in an evening of madcap fun.Don’t forget that in June and July the centre also hosts its series of free lunchtime concerts. Please contact Audrey Robinson at info@ballinartscente.com if you would like to perform as part of this programme.
