Electric Ireland All-Ireland Minor ‘C’ Camogie Semi-Final

Mayo 2-17

Cavan 1-4

At Duggan Park, Ballinasloe

At a sundrenched Duggan Park, Mayo made light work of Cavan once again to reach the All-Ireland minor final.

These teams last met back in March in the group stages of the championship and on that occasion Mayo emerged with an easy victory on a scoreline of 3-16 to Cavan’s 0-4.

The stakes were much higher on this occasion and Cavan set up differently for this encounter, employing a sweeper to strengthen their defence. This worked well for Cavan in the opening quarter but as Mayo settled into the game, they came to grips with the sweeper tactic employed by Cavan. The first quarter was a closely contested with scores for both teams keeping the contest in the mix but in the second period of the opening half, Mayo started to find their rhythm and the green and red built up a seven point lead by halftime, 1-9 to 1-2.

In the second-half Mayo continued to exert their dominance with Hannah Hauttman, Cathy Greally and Kate Tener keeping the scoreboard ticking and the excellent Mayo defence keeping Cavan to one point.

Mayo introduced their subs, who added new energy and kept the pressure on a tiring Cavan side. In the end, it was a convincing victory for the Mayo girls who finished on a score line of 2-17 to Cavan’s 1-4. Brian Molloy, President of the Camogie Association presented the player of the match award to Hannah Hauttman who was dominant in the Mayo attack throughout the game. Tyrone, who defeated Wicklow in the other semi-final, will be Mayo’s opponents in the final this Sunday, April 28, at 2pm in Drumlane GAA Grounds, Milltown, Co Cavan.
