Mayo fan painting house green and red ahead of All-Ireland football final

Mayo supporters all over the county are gearing up for next weekend’s All-Ireland football final against Kerry.
One green and red fan, in particular, is pulling out all the stops in the build-up to the big day.
Belmullet man John Shevlin, known for driving the famous ‘Up Mayo’ green and red Ford Focus, is painting his house in the county colours for the week that’s in it.
“This car has been on the go since 2017, and we brought it over to London for the championship game in Ruislip in April,” John said of the unique vehicle when speaking with the .
John, who has been following Mayo since 1979, plans to drive the distinctive car to Dublin for the final, where he hopes to see his county finally get their hands on the Sam Maguire Cup.
“Nobody gives us a chance against Kerry, and that’s the best way to have it. We’ll see what happens, but hopefully everything goes well. I reckon Mayo will win by three or four points.”
John, who also added that he coached Ryan O’Donoghue at underage level, has been particularly impressed by Mayo’s inside forward line this year.

“We’re all very proud of Ryan here in Belmullet. We have a good young team, including talented forwards like Kobe McDonald and Darragh Beirne.”
Andy Moran’s side are aiming to become the first Mayo team since 1951 to win the All-Ireland, and John has a feeling this could finally be the year.
“We’ve had the rub of the green so far and a bit of luck, but then again, we’ve never really had that luck before. You have to go in believing this can be the year for us.”
