New training facility set for Mayo LGFA

Durkan Bohola Community Park has entered a new licence agreement with Mayo LGFA as a base for training facilities for all Mayo LGFA teams, the
has learned.The deal is great news for all involved with ladies football in Mayo, where player numbers are growing each year. The dedicated park, named after former Mayo Person of the Year Bill Durkan will provide a centrally located training facility for Mayo LGFA across all levels, which will be a boost for players given the lengthy journey they would undertake due to the size of the county The depth of talent is evident at all levels. The Mayo senior team have been a constant present in the knockout stages of the All-Ireland, reaching the quarter-final in Liam McHale’s opening year as manager. At underage, the Mayo U16 team reached the All-Ireland final this year and the U14s won the All-Ireland in 2023.
Funding of €445,000 has been secured from the Community Sports Facilities Funding and speaking to the
earlier today, Mayo LGFA chairperson Des Phillips hopes the facility will be up and running in the winter of 2025.“It will be a facility that will help Mayo LGFA no ends. At the minute, we’re a nomad. We’ve no place to call our own. We’ll be able to train all our county teams on it, everything going well.
“You have good roads coming from all directions. It’s quite central for a county the size of Mayo. Everything going well, we should be able to accommodate all our teams on it.
“A lot of it is weather dependent, but hopefully it could be ready for next winter, for training from November on.”
