Former Mayo footballer Austin O’Malley tasted All-Ireland success in Croke Park last Sunday after guiding his adopted club Cuala to the Andy Merrigan Cup after a pulsating All-Ireland Club SFC Final against Errigal Ciarán of Tyrone.

The Dublin side were dominant in the opening half, leading 3-9 to 0-5 at the break but a tour de force by Peter Harte brought Errigal back to within three points before Cuala pushed on to win a maiden All-Ireland Club SFC title, in addition to their first ever Dublin and Leinster senior titles last year. The success means Cuala are only the second club to win All-Irelands in football and hurling and the Louisburgh native beamed with pride after the game.

“It’s a very special feeling. And I’m so grateful again to the club for even giving me the opportunity to be here and be involved and manage these guys,” said O’Malley.
