Nineteen Mayo LGFA club championship games this Saturday and Sunday will raise funds for the recovery of Niamh Kinsella, her sisters and her nephew.

Ladies football clubs across Mayo are donating the gate proceeds from this weekend's AbbVie Mayo LGFA Championship fixtures to the fundraiser supporting Claremorris LGFA player Niamh Kinsella, her sisters Ella and Alma, and her nephew Yemi, who were seriously injured in a road traffic collision last weekend.

Nineteen championship games are fixed for Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August across the Senior, Intermediate and three Junior grades. Mayo LGFA County Board has asked every club to lodge its gate receipts from those games, less the cost of the match officials, straight to the family's GoFundMe appeal.

“Being there for your clubmate in times of unimaginable difficulty is at the heart of what it means to be part of our LGFA community,” said Mayo LGFA Chairperson Sinéad Stagg.

“Through our collective efforts, we hope that this small gesture can provide some practical assistance to the family and, most importantly, remind them that they are not alone and that their wider LGFA family is standing with them.” Supporters who cannot make it to a game this weekend can still take part by buying an online ticket. The county board has set up two ticket links, one for the Senior and Intermediate championship and one for the Junior A, B and C championships. All money paid for those tickets transfers directly into the appeal on behalf of the clubs of Mayo LGFA.

Anyone going to a game can pay cash at the gate as normal, and collections will also be taken at grounds around the county.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Niamh, her sisters and her nephew, and we wish them every possible support, strength and good wish as they continue their recovery,” said Ms Stagg.
