Circus appeals for witnesses to 'frightening' Mayo incident

Tom Duffy's Circus is appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward

Popular circus Tom Duffy’s is appealing to the Mayo public after one of their lorries was was involved in a frightening incident on the N26 near Foxford.

A car being driven erratically crashed into one of their lorries last Sunday evening.

“We always try to take the roads late on a Sunday evening to avoid causing obstructions, when the traffic and roads are quieter — but as we made our way carefully to the next location with all our staff and their families, a car was driven erratically across both lanes at high speed before losing control and crashing into one of our American caravans, bursting two tyres,” said the circus in a post on social media.

They have appealed for witnesses or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward.

“We've since learned the car was a black Volkswagen Passat with lowered suspension, occupied by two white males, who stripped the plates at a spot near Craggagh cemetery before making off.

We're appealing for any dashcam or CCTV footage of the N26 at Swinford heading towards Foxford, Noorey Park, or the road by Craggagh cemetery on Sunday evening around 8.30pm.

If you have any footage or information, please send us a message or contact your local Garda station or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

"Thankfully no one was seriously hurt, but with our staff and their families changing location it could have been so much worse."
