Former Mayo manager rules himself out of Galway job

Speculation remains rife over who will replace Padraic Joyce as Galway senior football manager, who recently stepped down after seven years in charge.

One man who has ruled himself out is James Horan. The former Mayo manager won six Connacht titles across his two spell as Mayo manager and guided the county to four All-Ireland final but when speaking on the Irish Examiner Football Podcast, Horan gave a clear answer.

"Will I be the next Galway manager? No would be the answer. It would be a fascinating job, for sure. Galway is a serious county," said Horan.

Another high profile candidate who is out of the running is Donegal native Mark McHugh. The Westmeath manager guided the county to only their second ever Leinster title and will remain with the maroon and white for 2027.
