Claremorris 0-11

O’Donovan Rossa 2-7

Goals proved the difference in the end as a pair from Éabha O’Donovan broke Claremorris hearts in the All-Ireland ladies club junior football final this afternoon.

The first of them came on 10 minutes when a short kickout by Claire Keane was intercepted by the corner-forward and she fired into the net.

Known for their quick starts throughout the championship, Claremorris struggled to get going early on but spearheaded by Bree Hession and Alana Fitzpatrick, they were withing two points at half-time, 1-5 to 0-6, through scores by Hession, captain Laura Kelly, Rebecca Kean and Claremorris were much better throughout the second half and Kean, Kelly and Nina Wallace pulled them level before Síomha McNulty, another outstanding performer for the South Mayo ladies, pushed Claremorris ahead for the first time with eight minutes to go.

But Rossa would find a second wind as Éabha O’Donovan netted a second goal two minutes later. Sammon brought Claremorris back to within one, but a late free by the goalscorer ended Claremorris hopes of a maiden All-Ireland victory.
