Excitement might be building right across the county following Mayo’s qualification for the All-Ireland Senior Football Final but before all that, there are plenty other finals of serious concern to be taken care of locally as the Mayo Senior Football League reaches its conclusion this weekend.

With the round robin phase completed to determine who has been promoted and relegated, six finals will take place over Friday, Saturday and Sunday to decide upon the champions of each division.

The action gets underway on Friday evening and sees a local derby on the cards as Balla and Mayo Gaels, who have become very accustomed to each other in the Mayo club championship in recent years, face off in the Division 2 Final. Throw-in is at 7.30pm in Breaffy (ref: Frank Flynn).

The remainder of the finals will be held in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park. The Division 5 Final will begin a triple header of league deciders. That game sees Tourmakeady take on Islandeady at 4pm (ref: Declan Leonard) while Lahardane MacHales face Westport ‘B’ at 5.45pm in the Division 4 final (ref: Mark Tuffy) and Ardnaree Sarsfields take on Kilmeena at 7.30pm (ref: John Brennan) in the Division 3 final.

It will be a busy day at the home of Mayo GAA as before that, the Mayo U16 hurling championship finals will be decided. The ‘B’ final sees Castlebar Mitchels face St Ciaran’s (12pm, ref: James Judge) and the ‘A’ final will be Ballyhaunis against Westport (1.30pm, ref: Jamie Rooney).

A double header will round off the Mayo Senior League finals on Sunday afternoon next. Hollymount-Carramore ‘B’ take on Westport ‘C’ at 11.30am in the Division 6 finale (ref: Vincent Tomas) and the main event sees a repeat of last year’s Mayo Senior Club Championship final as Ballina Stephenites, who won following a replay, face Westport at 1.30pm (ref: Paul Lydon).

Meanwhile, the South Mayo O’Mara Cup Final will be played on Friday evening. Ballinrobe will have home advantage as they take on Garrymore at 8pm in Flanagan Park (ref: John Hughes).
