Zero tolerance from Mayo’s newest Garda
Honorary Garda Shannon Moran arresting her father Pat on her first day of duty.
It was a tough first day on the beat for Honorary Garda Shannon Moran. Minutes after receiving her uniform from her Big Blue Buddy, Garda John Monaghan, the newest recruit in Mayo made her first arrest – charging her father Pat with the serious offence of failing to provide sufficient ice cream during last week’s heatwave.
“They say good staff are hard to get but recently An Garda Síochána in Mayo have employed one of the finest,” said AGS Mayo on Facebook. “Honorary Garda Shannon Moran reported for duty after receiving her uniform from her Big Blue Buddy Garda John Monaghan from Claremorris Community Engagement.

“Once Shannon put the uniform on she wasted no time in performing her first arrest. Her dad Pat was the offender, his crime was failure to give Shannon enough ice-cream in 29-degree heat.
“An Garda Síochána Mayo are delighted to welcome Shannon to our ranks and we look forward to creating many happy and wonderful memories with her and her family for years to come.”
Congratulations to Shannon on her appointment and well done to Garda John Monaghan and all involved for making it such a special occasion.
