Western town all set for annual festival
Enniscrone’s famous Black Pig Festival takes place from Thursday to Sunday next, July 27 to 31.
There will be so much to do in Enniscrone from July 23 to 27, with a jam-packed programme organised by the Enniscrone Events and Black Pig Festival committee, so make sure to come along and make memories. It promises to be a fun weekend for all the family.
The official opening will take place from 4pm to 7pm on Thursday, July 23 with The Taste of Enniscrone at The Old Church. There will be live music with Rosie Connolly, and the roasting of the Black Pig. Purchase Enniscrone currency to taste the delights.
A busking competition will be held from 7pm to 8.30pm on Main Street with judging at 8pm. The evening will finish off with an outdoor concert by All Folk’d Up at the Diamond Coast Hotel Gig Rig. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.
Friday will see Beach Yoga with Karen Ann at 8am, Yoga as Gaeilge with Jenny at the Ocean Sands Hotel, children's busking for fun event on top promenade from 2pm to 4.30pm, family fun nostalgic sports day at the Castlefield from 3pm to 4pm, hosted by The West Sligo Family Resource Centre; Make a Kite workshop at West Sligo FRC from 4pm to 5pm; Seaside Ball Race with DJ Pat Country Roadshow at Cliff Road and Waterfront House at 6pm; World Bubble Football Championship on the beach from 6pm to 8pm – team entries to 089-4288476 or steven@bubblefootballireland.com; music on the Square with Relish Records DJ from 7pm to 9pm and Jack Keogh live outdoor dance at Diamond Coast Hotel from 8pm to 11pm, with tickets on Eventbrite.
Saturday’s events commence at 9am with Beach Yoga with Sophie, Beach Pilates at 10am with Freedom Flow Wellness; Pilates for Men with Finn in Ocean Sands Hotel at 10am; Chair Yoga with Donna in Ocean Sands Hotel at 11am; Indoor and Outdoor Enniscrone Market Day at The Old Church (prebooked traders welcome) from 11am to 2pm; Family Fun Day from 12 noon to 4pm, hosted by West Sligo FRC at the Festival Marquee at the Hollow; Kids Disco from 4.30pm to 6pm at the Ocean Sands Hotel and Retro Carnival Games from 5-7pm.
The evening entertainment will commence at 8.30pm with Medium Rare Theatre performance with Niamh McGrath and Orla McSharry at the Ocean Sands Hotel, doors open at 8pm, tickets on Eventbrite; music on the Square at 8pm by Displaced and 9pm by Old Church Band; music in Gilroy’s Bar with Doppler and there will be an amazing fireworks display at the pier at 11pm.
Sunday morning will see beach yoga, beach pilates, pilates for men and chair yoga (same times as Saturday); Kiltimagh Pet Farm at the Festival Marquee in the Hollow at 11am; Sandcastles competition on the small beach with judging at 1pm, register online.
There is a trad session at 6pm in Gilroy's, Modern dance troop display at 7pm, music on the Square with Aisling and Tony from 7.30pm to 9.30pm; comedians Karl Spain and Patrick Sweeney in the Ocean Sands Hotel at 7.30pm; and the Black Pig Festival Dance with Stuart Moyles will take place in the Ocean Sands Hotel at 10pm. To complete the busy weekend, Monday will commence with beach yoga at 9am with Karen Ann; Selfie Treasure Hunt from 1pm to 4pm – register at Ocean Sands Hotel (fun prizes); Enniscrone Pitch n Putt event at 7pm, girls golf, tickets on Tickettailor.com.
There is also the Black Pig Run – 5km and 10km - at 7pm. Register online and on the day at Eventbrite.ie. The start and finish line is the Diamond Coast Hotel. Chip timing and organised by West Sligo AC.
