The Director of Roads with Mayo County Council has said the western region needs a motorway developed from Tubbercurry to Knock.
Cllr Gerry Murray called for an update on the ongoing N17 Knock to Collooney project at last week’s meeting of the Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District. Cllr Murray said several landowners have farm developments to undertake but cannot do so without clarity on the future of the project.
Director of Roads Tom Gilligan said Sligo County Council is the lead local authority on the scheme and they are continuing to work with them on delivering the project. He said there is an emphasis on expanding the current scheme to provide a motorway, “We all want what the region needs which is the motorway developed from Tubbercurry to Knock. It is one of the key objectives and I’m talking to my colleagues in Sligo and emphasising that fact,” he said.
“We don’t just want the bypass, we want the whole project. It does address the whole area of regional balance connecting Mayo to Donegal and Sligo.”
