Warm tributes following passing of “one of a kind” educator and GAA man

There is tremendous sadness in Ballina and beyond following the passing of Eamon Davis/Bro Sebastian.
The Marist Brother, formerly of Ballsbridge, Dublin, Longford, Sligo, and Ballina, left a lasting legacy as an educator and dedicated GAA man.
A former principal of Scoil Padraig NS in Ballina, Bro Sebastian was a leading figure with Ballina Stephenites during his time in Mayo. He was also a selector for the famous Sligo Minor team that reached an All Ireland Final in 1968.
Ballina Stephenites paid tribute to an iconic figure within the club’s storied history.
“We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Bro. Sebastian of the Marist Brothers – a true gentleman, a dedicated GAA man, and a beloved figure within the Ballina Stephenites GAA Club.
Bro, Sebastian was a tireless advocate for the development of underage talent and was instrumental in nurturing generations of young players. His passion, commitment, and vision were the driving force behind the early development of Bord na nÓg in the club, laying foundations that continue to benefit the club and community to this day.
Throughout his many roles within the Ballina Stephenites, Bro. Sebastian exemplified loyalty, service, and leadership.A true stalwart of the club.
His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched both on and off the field. We extend our deepest sympathies to his Marist Brothers family, his family & friends and all who knew him," said the GAA club.
Tributes poured in online following news of his passing.
“His sense of humour and hearty laugh are abiding memories as are his knowledge and love of the GAA,” said one former colleague.
“He was one of a kind. He had the ability to connect with everyone young and old. Sebastian enjoyed many sports and passed his love of sports to the students. I was always amazed how he could see the good in everyone. May he rest with the angel,” read another.
Bro Sebastian is regretted by his niece Fiona, nephew Patrick, grandniece Darcy, grandnephew Dean, great grandnephews and great grandnieces, as well as his Marist Brothers confreres in Ireland and a wide circle of friends.
