Baker51 has been named Mayo’s Café of the Year at the Irish Restaurant Awards, one of the most respected accolades in the Irish hospitality industry.

The award recognises cafés delivering an exceptional all-round experience, with one café selected to represent each county in Ireland. Baker51 will now go on to represent Mayo at the All-Ireland finals in May.

Just over a year since opening in Ballina, the award marks a significant milestone. Rooted in 75 years of baking heritage through O’Hara’s of Foxford, Baker51 was built on a genuine commitment to craft.

From sourdough and pastries to a refined, all-day menu, the offering reflects a balance of traditional baking and a more contemporary, city-inspired style. The café has quickly established itself as one of the most distinctive in the west of Ireland.

Speaking about the award, the O’Hara family said: “Just over a year since opening, it’s been an incredible journey. This award means so much to us and to everyone who has been part of building Baker51. We’re incredibly proud of our team. Their passion and energy are what make Baker51 what it is. To our suppliers and every single customer who has walked through our doors, thank you.”

The recognition follows a strong awards season for Baker51, which earlier this year also took home three awards at the Irish Takeaway Awards, including Best Café.

As the team now looks ahead to the All-Ireland finals, the focus remains on continuing to evolve while staying true to what has set Baker51 apart.
