Major Mayo event due to take place this month is postponed

“Unfortunately, conditions at present do not allow the event to go ahead as planned.”

The Mayo Ploughing Championships, scheduled to take place on Sunday, 19 April at the Kelly Farm in Roundford, have been postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date.

The decision was made by the Mayo Ploughing Committee following an inspection of the ploughing site and consideration of recent weather conditions.

Committee member John-Joe Hughes said the committee reached the decision with deep regret, citing poor weather during the past week and little improvement forecast for the days ahead.

“These events depend heavily on weather conditions, both for competitor safety and to ensure the standard of ploughing expected,” Mr Hughes said. “Unfortunately, conditions at present do not allow the event to go ahead as planned.”

A new date will be announced in due course, and the committee is advising competitors, supporters, and the wider farming community to monitor local press and announcements for further updates.

The Mayo Ploughing Committee has extended its thanks to all sponsors, volunteers, and competitors for their understanding and patience. The committee has confirmed that the championships will go ahead later in the year once conditions improve.
