Leo Varadkar has announced his decision to step down as An Taoiseach and leader of Fine Gael.
Mr Varadkar made a statement to the media this lunchtime.
"One part of leadership is knowing when the time has come to pass on the baton to somebody else, then having the courage to do it," Mr Varadkar said.
Mr Varadkar will stay on as Taoiseach until a new Fine Gael leader is appointed before Tuesday, April 16.
The new Taoiseach will be appointed after the Dáil returns from Easter break.
