Two Mayo bus stops to be reinstated on Ballina to Galway route

Bus stops at Straide and Breaffy will be reinstated on the Citylink Ballina to Galway route, it has been confirmed.
Senator Mark Duffy has welcomed the news and thanked local community members who have been campaigning for the return of the stops.
The two villages were left without a local bus service after the withdrawal of the Bus Éireann Route 52 service earlier this year.
Senator Duffy, the Fine Gael Seanad Spokesperson on Transport, made a series of representations to Citylink and the National Transport Authority before confirming that the stops will be restored.
The Citylink route currently operates eight services a day.
The stop at Breaffy will be in place from August 31, while the stop at Straide will begin operating once the roadworks on the N58 at Ballylahan have been completed.
“Today’s announcement is great news for the communities of Straide and Breaffy,” Senator Duffy said. “The addition of these two stops will be a huge benefit to local commuters, to students, and to those attending medical appointments.”
He thanked everyone who has got into contact with him about the issue over the past few months, saying that the feedback and persistence shown were “instrumental in getting this decision reversed”.
“Community voices do matter,” he said.
Senator Duffy also thanked Mayo County Council and Galway City Council for their co-operation on the approval process.
“I would like to acknowledge the work of Cllr Donna Sheridan and Cllr Neil Cruise on this issue and will continue to work closely with them to deliver for the local community,” he added.
