Two arrested following drugs seizure in Mayo

The MDMA was seized following a search, under warrant, of a premises in Castlebar.

Today, Tuesday 11th June 2024, as part of intelligence-led operations, Revenue officers seized approximately 2 kgs of MDMA (subject to analysis) with an estimated value of €120,000 in County Mayo.

The seizure was made as a result of a joint operation conducted by the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB), the Mayo/Roscommon/Longford Drugs Unit and Revenue’s Customs Service.

The MDMA was seized following a search, under warrant, of a premises in Castlebar.

A further 0.5 kg of suspected MDMA with an estimated value of €30,000 along with a small quantity of cash were also seized by Gardaí.

Two males, aged in their 20’s, were arrested by An Garda Síochaná, and are currently detained at a Garda station in County Mayo under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

The drugs seized will now be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

Investigations are ongoing.
