Meet the Artist at Ballina Arts Centre
Bury the Remains, Oil on birch ply, 30x30cm.
Mayo creatives will have a chance to meet renowned Waterford-based artist Blawnin Clancy’s on October 17th at the opening of her newest exhibitions at Ballina Arts Centre.
The artist will attend a wine reception at 2pm, to talk about the work, her process, and to answer questions from the audience.
Blawnin’s exhibition The Dark Seam examines identity, memory, and inherited experience as they surface through the landscape.
The paintings reflect the pull of land and sea along the Atlantic coast, a threshold that signifies both departure and homecoming.
Drawing on Robert Macfarlane’s writing on landscapes that alter perception, The Dark Seam seeks to reveal the geographic, emotional, and historical undercurrents that shape our encounter with place.
The opening on October 17th, is a great opportunity to meet the artists in a relaxed and intimate setting and gain some insights into the work. All are welcome.
At the end of the month, on Oct 31st Anna Spearman’s New Work will go on display in the Centre.
The exhibition includes paintings, painted objects and animations that have emerged from the artist’s ongoing research into paint both as material and process.
The work is abstract and inspired by all manner of visual and sensory information encountered on a daily basis. A playful and intuitive approach to making, allows for open ended, and sometimes surprising, outcomes.
Both exhibitions will run until December 5th and are available to view from 10am – 6pm, Tuesday to Saturday. Admission is free.
