Cross Country training

Cross country training for boys and girls aged 12 and over, takes place every Sunday from 9.45am to 10.55am at Ballinrobe Racecourse. All abilities are welcome and it is a great opportunity to make new friends and be part of a team.

Drive In Bingo 

Ballinrobe GAA Club are delighted to announce that Drive In Bingo will be coming to Ballinrobe Racecourse on Friday evening, October 9. A great night of fun for all the family with big cash prizes and a jackpot of €1,000. Gates open at 7pm and books can be bought in Martin Murphys Newsagents, Ballinrobe, or on the night. All proceeds are towards to Ballinrobe GAA Club Development.

Badminton Club

The Lakeside Badminton Club for Primary School and Secondary School students takes place in the Lakeside Sport and Fitness Centre, Station Road, every Wednesday. The time for primary school pupils is from 4.30 to 5.45pm, and secondary pupils is from 6 to 7.15pm. These coaching sessions are suitable for all levels, and those taking part can improve their technique, skills, as well as making new friends. The cost to take part is €60 for Badminton Ireland members, and €80 for non-members.

Parents Plus ‘Children’s ADHD Programme’

A free eight-week course for parents of children aged 6-12 with ADHD will take place in the Tacú Family Resource Centre, Main Street, every Tuesday from October 13 to December 8 (break for Halloween), running from 9.45am to 12.15pm. The course will help parents cope and manage stress; understand ADHD; help their child gain confidence and self-esteem; help their child build friendships and navigate school; problem-solve and deal with challenges; understand the role of medication.

Information session about Cross Border Healthcare

A public information session regarding access to the Cross Border Healthcare Scheme in collaboration with Kingsbridge Private Hospital Group, will take place in the Tacú Family Resource Centre, Ballinrobe on Wednesday, October 7, from 10am to 7pm. This scheme provides patients in the Republic of Ireland to avail of healthcare at a Kingsbridge Private Hospital in Northern Ireland in a lesser amount of time and avoiding long waiting lists, while being reimbursed by the HSE.

The information session is being hosted by Jack Murphy, a community volunteer in Ballinrobe. Those attending the information session will find out details about the program, where they can also meet a Kingsbridge general practitioner liaison, who will discuss matters privately with those seeking treatment. The prospective patients will then be referred to a Kingsbridge Hospital in Northern Ireland.

Ballinrobe Community School

The Ballinrobe Community School transition year students recently attended a Career Exploration Workshop and Activity Day at Westport House. The students got an insight into the career pathways at the Westport House Estate. The students also had lots of fun on the Quarry Edge leap, zip-lines, climbing zone and the giant swing. Ballinrobe Community School thank everyone at Westport Estate for what was a very enjoyable day.

Church Gate collection

The Mayo Mental Health Association would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported its annual church gate collection in Ballinrobe, which raised €988.60 this year. A special word of thanks goes to all the volunteer collectors who generously gave their time. The association greatly appreciates the continued generosity and support of the Ballinrobe community.

Parish magazine

The Roundfort, Robeen and Carras parish magazine committee are inviting submissions for the 2026 parish magazine. Given that three local men - Stephen Coen, Enda Hession and Eoin McGreal, were involved in Mayo's All-Ireland victory, the committee are particularly keen to include stories, articles, pictures and other memories people have of Mayo winning Sam Maguire. Ballinrobe GAA Club lotto draw

There was no winner of the €5,900 lotto jackpot draw which was held on Monday, September 28. The numbers drawn were 1, 4, 6 and 22. The match three winners (€50) were Bernie O’Malley, and Ron Bourke.

Tacú Centre 50/50 draw

Martin Murphy was the winner of €160 in last week’s 50/50 draw conducted by the Tacú Family Resource Centre.

Ballinrobe Knights

Ballinrobe Knights is a chess club for children aged 7-12 and is open to all levels and abilities. The club meets every Thursday from 6 to 7.30pm in the Maple Youth Centre, Bowgate Street. Ballinrobe Rugby Club 50/50 draw

The club held its weekly 50/50 draw on Sunday, September 27, with Helena Feerick the winner of €430. Tickets for the weekly draw can be purchased in Murphy’s Centra and Martin Murphy’s Newsagent.

Garrymore GAA Club lotto draw

There was no winner of the €6,200 lotto jackpot draw which was held in Garrymore, on Sunday, September 27. The numbers drawn were 8, 20, 30 and 34. The €50 winners were Fintan Forde, Garrymore; Fintan Jennings, Purranes; and Lynda Hession, Frenchgrove.

Shrule/Glencorrib GAA and LGFA Club lotto

There was no winner of the €22,450 lotto jackpot draw which was held on Monday, September 28. The numbers drawn were 3, 7, 18 and 24. The €25 winners were Brid Kearney, Colette Laffey, Emma Walsh, and Shirley Mongan.

Mayo applications for Texaco 'Support for Sport' funding invited

Sports clubs from Co. Mayo and beyond are invited to apply for the sixth Texaco Support for Sport initiative in which a fund of €130,000 will be divided equally in €5,000 amounts and distributed to successful applicants in each of the twenty-six counties. To date more than €600,000 has been distributed to over 125 sports clubs across Ireland, of which €5,000 each went to five successful Co. Mayo clubs: Tourmakeady Handball Club (2021), Ballina Tennis Club (2022), Lake District Athletic Club, Ballinrobe (2023), Ballina Boxing Club (2024) and Westport United Community Soccer Club (2025).

Open to all sports clubs irrespective of sporting discipline, size, membership, age, cultural appeal or gender (including clubs that may have been unsuccessful in their application previously), the initiative is one that ‘recognises and supports the valuable contribution that sports clubs make to communities and throughout Irish society’.

Closing date for applications is January 21, 2027 with adjudication taking place thereafter. Leading the adjudication process once again is Texaco Support for Sport ambassador, broadcaster and former Irish rugby international, Donncha O’Callaghan. Clubs that received funding to date span the spectrum of Irish sporting activity – archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, bowling, bowls, boxing, camogie, climbing, cricket, cycling, diving, GAA, Gaelic football, golf, gymnastics, handball, hockey, hurling, inline hockey, kayaking, rowing, rugby, soccer, squash, swimming, and tennis amongst them.

Mayo Gaels lotto

The numbers drawn in the Mayo Gaels lotto which was held on Tuesday, September 29, were 4,10, 23 and 35. There was no jackpot winner, and the €30 winners were Sal and Mary Taveras, Liam Rushe, Kevin Brett, and John McCormack. The jackpot in the draw to be held today, Tuesday, October 6, is €5,300.

A social dinner takes place every Tuesday in the Mayo Abbey Centre but must be booked in advance. Other services offered at the centre is: free computer/smartphone support for beginners; hot desk spaces with fibre broadband connections suitable for virtual meetings or interviews. It is the pick up and drop off point for the Local Link Bus Service which goes to Castlebar daily Tuesday to Saturday and Claremorris every Thursday. Mayo Night 

The White House, Swinford will host a Mayo Night on Saturday, October 24. A great night’s entertainment is planned with DJ Michael Burke and will include fun events - Best Dressed Mayo Supporter prizes, chat with past Mayo players and fun quiz with spot prizes.
