Tributes to two great community men

The late Mick Kilcourse was one of the founders of Castlebar Cycling Club.

Members of Castlebar Municipal District have expressed condolences to the families of Tom Prendergast from Clogher and Mick Kilcourse from Castlebar who passed away recently.

Extending sympathy to Mr Prendergast’s wife Nuala and family, Cllr Blackie Gavin said Tom was “a great community man who was involved in a range of sports from soccer to football and there was no village within a 10k radius that he didn’t have friends in from all walks of life".

Cllr Ger Deere paid tribute to the late Mick Kilcourse who was "an iconic member" of Castlebar Cycling Club and who promoted the sport throughout the town and county.

"He was such a positive man and often rang me about things happening around the town, suggesting what would be a good idea to move things on. He was instrumental in Islandeady Cycling Club and is a huge loss so I extend sympathy to his wife Kay and sons and family," said Cllr Deere.

The votes of sympathy were supported by all councillors.
