Local Notes: Moylaw Group Water Scheme wins award at National Federation of Group Water Schemes Excellence Awards.
Seamus Callaghan, Former Secretary, Moylaw Group Water Scheme was recognised as a winner in the ‘GWS Ethos and volunteerism’ category at the 2026 Rural Water Services Conference as part of the National Federation of Group Water Schemes (NFGWS) Excellence Awards programme.
A Coffee Morning in memory of Mary Boland, Currabaggan, who sadly passed away in March of this year will be held in the reception area of the centre in Knockmore on Sunday, October 4, from 10am-2pm. Well done to the Knockmore ladies senior football team on their great win over Kilmovee Shamrocks in the Mayo LSFC semi-final which was held on Sunday, September 20, in St Joseph's Park Knockmore. Best of luck to the team who now are in the county final.

There was great excitement and a sea of red and green in Currabaggan NS when members of the Mayo team arrived with the Sam Maguire. Pupils, teachers, local club members, and neighbours all joined in to celebrate the occassion.
A new song titled "Midfield in County Mayo", written by Midfield parishioner, Bernard O'Brien, and sung by local artist Michael Fox (Callow, Foxford) has been released and it can be requested for airplay on local radio and online radio stations.

The Cemetery Committee thank everyone who attended, helped out in any way or contributed to collection at the recent Mass. Total contributions amounted to €2627.50. They are extremely grateful as this will help them with maintenance and upkeep.
It has been brought to their attention that the bin is being used on occasion for disposal of household and other rubbish and they would like to emphasise that this bin is strictly for cemetery use only. They thank you for your continued cooperation and support.
The children's choir appeals to any child who would like to play a role in their monthly church liturgy to sit in the company of the choir. This will enable other roles, other than singing or music, to be assigned to a child such as Prayers of the Faithful, readings, bringing up of the offertory gifts etc. Choir practice takes place every Tuesday evening at 8pm. The Lacken Tractor Run will take place on Sunday, October 4, and once again promises to be a wonderful family and community day out. Registration and entertainment will begin at 12.30pm at Lacken Sensory Garden, where Darren D’Barista will be serving coffees and ices. There will also be children’s treats, kindly sponsored by Focluth Woods. The children will have the opportunity to explore and enjoy the new additions to the Sensory Garden since last year’s Tractor Run.
The Tractor Run will set off at 2pm, with a children’s convoy leading the way down Lacken Strand, guided by Foróige leaders and volunteers. From Lacken, the tractors will continue towards Ballycastle. It is a wonderful route that showcases the natural beauty of the area and makes the Tractor Run a memorable occasion for participants and spectators alike.
From 3.30pm refreshments will be served at Bessie’s Bar, featuring their signature BBQ, followed by an auction, raffle and live music. There will be some fantastic auction items on the day, including a home-bred calf, a signed official white Mayo GAA All-Ireland champions jersey 2026, tonne bags of timber, and other items. The raffle will also feature a wonderful selection of prizes, including very generous vouchers kindly donated by Homeland Killala, Caroline’s Pilates and Enda Rooney Maintenance, a beautiful hamper by Advanced Cosmetics, a tonne bag of timber, and many more fantastic prizes.
This year, the Tractor Run are proud to be fundraising for Cancer Fund for Children/Daisy Lodge. They are delighted to support this important facility in the West of Ireland, along with Lacken Community Care Over 55’s social events. Come along, bring the family and enjoy a great day of community spirit, spectacular North Mayo scenery, entertainment and fun, while supporting two very worthy causes.
