Tributes to Mayo grandmother who died after being hit by car

Heartfelt tributes have been paid to a much-loved Mayo woman who passed away after she was struck by a car.
Sheila Holian, of Glebe Street, Ballinrobe, was seriously injured in the accident on Thursday and later passed away at Mayo University Hospital.
She was hit by a car while walking near her home.
Sheila is predeceased by her beloved husband Pat, her parents Michael and May, her brothers Joe, Paddy and Michael, her sisters Colette and baby Helena, brothers in law Paddy, Dick, Fred and Brian, sisters-in-law June and Lynn.
Sheila will be forever loved and missed by her children Damien, Anne, Shelly and Edel. Her daughter-in-law Juliette, her sons-in-law Nicol, Patrick and John. Her grandchildren Patrick, Daniel, Patrick, Katie, Sean and great-grandchildren. Her sisters Mary Nolan, Castlebar and Ita Heddington, Liverpool and sisters in law Máire and Peggy, her cousin Martin, nieces and nephews, cousins. Her best friends Betty, Margaret and Irene, her wide circle of friends, young and old and her lovely neighbours on Glebe Street. Her constant canine companions Louie and Holly.
“Sheila fought the fight and finished the race,” stated her obituary.
Sheila was a hugely popular figure in her community and had lived on Glebe Street all her life.
There were scores of tributes following the sad news of her passing. Many remarked on Sheila’s kindness and how she had a smile that would light up any room.
“What a wonderful woman. It was always a pleasure to be in her company, wonderful chats and great laughs,” read a message of condolence.
“Such a beautiful woman, inside and out, always a friendly smile and chat she will be sadly missed,” stated another.
"Not only was she an amazing neighbour, but a kind and loving friend,” said one of the many tributes to Sheila.
Reposal takes place at St Joseph’s Funeral Home, Ballinrobe tomorrow evening with Funeral Mass at St Mary’s Church, Ballinrobe on Wednesday.
