Tributes to long-serving employee on retirement

Tributes were paid at last week's meeting of Ballina Municipal District.
A long-serving Mayo County Council employee has been wished well on his retirement.
Head of Roads Paul Dolan retired last Friday, April 18),after 28 years of service to the local authority, including 14 years working in the Ballina area.
At last week's meeting of the Ballina Municipal District, Cllr Michael Loftus said he wanted to wish Mr Dolan well on his retirement.
“I remember trying to get a road widened at Castlehill, Lahardane and I went to Paul Dolan about it. He told me, ‘it’s one of my key projects. Two of my tyres burst there!’
“I’m delighted to see consultants have been appointed to that project now and I wish Paul well in his retirement,” added Cllr Loftus.
Cllr Annie May Reape joined in the tributes to Mr Dolan.
“Paul was always very ambitious when it came to Ballina. He was a friendly and a nice person but we often had good, fiery meetings,” she said. “But that is what we wanted and it was all for the betterment of the town.”
Senior executive engineer Orla Bourke said Mr Dolan would be a loss to the council but wished him well on his next chapter.
“Paul was really highly regarded and worked well with all of the engineers and we’re all looking forward to working with his successor," Ms Bourke added.
