An injury-time winner gave Mayo FC their first win since the opening day of the FAI National League campaign against Letterkenny Rovers at Umbro Park this afternoon.
Connor McCarthy smashed home a header in the 91st minute to send the home support into raptures and give Mayo a much-needed three points.
The home side had the most of their strong start to the second half as Sean McAteer scored from the penalty spot on the hour mark to give Mayo a deserved lead. Man of the match Aron Heaney drew the foul from Dean McCarry and McAteer buried his penalty with aplomb.
Letterkenny’s 85th minute equalizer looked to have spoiled Mayo’s day as substitute Brendan McCafferty turned home Zach Gorman’s cross but McCarthy’s late leaping header saw Mayo claim the points.
