Timeline revealed for Westport road
A project to develop a link road from Westport Industrial Estate to the Golf Course Road, as well as additional units, may reach completion in late 2027, according to Westport area engineer Heather Gibbons, who was responding to queries from Cllr John O’Malley on the subject at a meeting last week of Westport-Belmullet Municipal District.
Cllr O’Malley commented: “We supported the new housing at Bog Gate Demesne on the basis of this slip road being done in conjunction with it but there is no sign of anything happening down there, other than a few trees cut. I was 20 minutes waiting to get onto the Newport Road this week and would be gone out immediately if the slip road was there. Traffic is backing up from the Gaelscoil and further back and despite all the promises made, nothing is done down there.”
Ms Gibbons said the contractor was on site at the moment and work is ongoing.
