Time for people of Killala to "step up" in missing persons case, says Collins family
Sandra Collins was 28 years old when she went missing from Killala on December 4, 2000
The family of Sandra Collins have urged the people of Killala to “step up” by coming forward with any information ahead of the 25th anniversary of her disappearance and murder this Thursday.
On December 4, 2000 Sandra, who was 28 years old at the time, went missing from Killala having been last seen at approximately 11pm at the Country Kitchen premises on George’s Street. At the time, she was wearing black boots, black pants, a beige sleeveless top and a maroon/beige sleeveless fleece jacket.
Four days later, her fleece was found on the pier in Killala. A half pound of sausages Sandra bought in the shop on the day of her disappearance, were still in the pocket of the fleece. It is believed Sandra was abducted and murdered.
Her brother Patrick told the Western People the Collins family are continuing to actively appeal for information.
“It is incredibly hard to believe 25 years have passed and we still don’t know where Sandra is or what has happened to her,” he said.
“How long do we need to keep asking our sister’s killer where they buried her?"
Patrick said the family is “100% certain” the answers to Sandra’s disappearance are in Killala. Sandra was originally from Crossmolina but had been living in Killala at the time caring for an elderly relative.
“There are a lot of good people in Killala and the reality is it is time for them to step up and give her back to us. Killala is so beautiful and picturesque but it has a dark and dreary secret."
He said the Collins family just want to give Sandra a proper burial and bring an end to the “hell” they have put through over the last quarter-century.
“Sandra have the most amazing nieces and nephews who she never got to know. She didn’t deserve this, and we don’t deserve to live this hell,” said Patrick.
The Collins family have asked if anyone knows anything about Sandra’s disappearance and death to contact Ballina garda station on 096 20560, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
