Talented Ballina youngster picks up seven medals in one weekend!

A talented Ballina musician is set to compete against the best in the province at regional level after sweeping up a number of medals at a recent local competition.

It was a weekend to remember for Cora Naughton, her proud family and fellow Bofield CCE members at the recent Mayo Fleadh Cheoil competition, which was held in her hometown of Ballina from May 3 to May 11.

Cora picked up an astonishing seven medals at the competition. She was successful in the Fiddle, Fiddle Slow Air, Whistle Slow Air, Irish Singing, Storytelling, Cómhra Gaeilge & Trio events. She competed in the Trios event alongside Padraig Maonghaile O'Caoimh and Barry O’Boyle of Bofield CCE.

Cora will now compete in these seven events at the Connacht Fleadh in Ballinsloe, which is taking place from June 29 to July 5.

Mayo Fleadh Cheoil in Ballina was a successful celebration of music, culture and community, and the north Mayo town is set to host the event again next year as part of a bumper May Bank Holiday of events that includes Mayo Day celebrations and the Women’s Mini-Marathon.
