'Serious traffic danger' coming off new dual carriageway

Councillor Brendan Mulroy has highlighted a traffic danger coming off the new N5 dual carriageway.
A local councillor has highlighted a traffic issue that is causing ongoing danger coming off the new dual carriageway from Castlebar to Westport.
Fianna Fáil Cllr Brendan Mulroy said motorists coming off the N5 dual carriageway and travelling onto the N59 towards Newport are mistakenly thinking they are still driving on the dual carriageway.
As a result, motorists have been driving on the wrong side of the road when they come onto the N59.
"People are staying on the Newport road like it is a dual carriageway and we have people driving on the wrong side of the road," Cllr Mulroy told last week’s meeting of the Westport-Belmullet Municipal District.
The Westport-based councillor called on Mayo County Council to ensure there are ‘end of dual carriageway’ signs erected at this location to ensure the safety of motorists.
