Search for missing Mayo man stood down

George Brennan.

A search for a missing Mayo man was stood down at the weekend following the discovery of a body.

George Brennan, a native of Claremorris, was last seen on April 2 in Ballycastle, Co Antrim.

The PSNI and An Garda Siochana worked together on the search with a number of other agencies and volunteers and there was extensive work carried out between Ballycastle and Fair Head.

An updated appeal had been made on Saturday in relation to a blue backpack Mr Brennan had been seen carrying in Ballycastle.

Following the discovery of a body at Fair Head on Sunday morning, the search for Mr Brennan was stood down.

His funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
