COMMUNITY NOTES: CARRA - WESTERN PEOPLE (MARCH 10 EDITION)

It is with deep and abiding sorrow we record the passing of Joe Dillon, Cullintra, Ballintubber, Claremorris, Co Mayo. Joe passed away peacefully at the Mayo Hospice, Castlebar surrounded by his loving family.

In his seventies Joe was a former senior Ballintubber GAA player in the 1970s. It was a role in which he excelled, winning Divisional Junior and a County Intermediate title in 1976. His intelligence, style and athleticism were evident with many outstanding displays especially at centre back. Later still he was a gifted coach with Ballintubber Bord na nÓg underage teams where he brought his guile, wisdom and expertise to bear. He was a Volex and Baxter employee for many years and he earned the respect of colleagues with his inherent warmth and his genuine caring tenets of personality. Joe, together with his late wife Bridie, were a very popular couple across the parish and they both will be remembered with fond affection by all privileged to have known them.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated in Ballintubber Abbey, with burial ceremonies taking place afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
