The community of Bonniconlon has come together to officially launch its Community Action Plan 2025–2030, marking a significant milestone in shaping the future of the area. The plan reflects the collective ideas, needs and priorities of local residents and was developed through extensive community engagement, including a large-scale information day and comprehensive household, business, and youth surveys.
The steering committee, formed in January under the Mayo Community Futures programme, comprised representatives from community groups and organisations across Bonniconlon. Their collaboration and commitment resulted in a highly informed and community-driven roadmap for the next five years.
The plan was formally launched on Sunday, November 23 by Minister Dara Calleary, who commended the effort, engagement and unity shown by the people of Bonniconlon throughout the process. He highlighted the remarkable 90% response rate to the household survey and the strong attendance at the community information day as evidence of the community’s dedication to its own development.
The Community Action Plan outlines several key priorities, including: development of an Astro pitch and community walkway; establishment of a local coffee shop; improved road safety measures; creation of a greenway along the old Tubbercurry road; addressing derelict housing in the area; increased focus on biodiversity protection and enhancement.
Speaking at the launch, Tracey Glacken, chairperson of the Steering Committee, praised the dedication and hard work of all involved over the past seven months. She expressed gratitude to elected representatives who have supported the community’s progress to date, and encouraged continued collaboration to help deliver the goals outlined in the plan.
“This plan represents the voice and vision of Bonniconlon,” Ms Glacken said.
“Our hope is that it will guide growth, strengthen connections and support a thriving and sustainable future for everyone who lives and works here.”
The Bonniconlon Community Action Plan 2025–2030 sets out a confident and collaborative direction for the parish, aiming to enhance services, infrastructure and quality of life for current and future generations.
