Returning Officer John Condon has acceded to a request for a second recount in the Swinford LEA. There is still just one vote between Neil Cruise (1,637) and John Sheahan (1,636) following the recount which began this morning.

An Enniscrone councillor had his house burgled while the election count was taking place in Sligo. Veteran councllor Joe Queenan’s home was targeted by criminals on Saturday while the house was unoccupied.

Fine Gael Geesala-based councillor Gerry Coyle and Achill-based Fianna Fail councillor Paul McNamara were the first two candidates elected in the Belmullet electoral area.
