Proposal to stage Fontaines D.C. concert in Mayo

A Castlebar councillor has proposed staging a homecoming concert for the band's two Mayo members.
A Castlebar councillor has proposed that efforts be made to stage a homecoming concert for one of the world’s biggest rock bands.
Cllr Harry Barrett told a meeting of Castlebar Municipal District that given the band's significant connection to the county town, the local authority should liaise with their management, Castlebar Chamber of Commerce and Conncht GAA to propose a concert or series of concerts to take place in a suitable local venue in 2026.
The band’s drummer Tom Coll and bass player Conor Deegan hail from the Castlebar area.
The Grammy-nominated band has picked up a Brit award and topped the charts in Ireland and the UK. They are considered one of the most exciting rock acts in the world having produced three critically acclaimed albums.
Cllr Barrett said the town should celebrate their success.
“We have two young guys from this town, Tom Coll and Conor Deegan, who are involved in one of the most successful acts in Europe at the moment and are growing all the time.
"They are a real success story. I would like to think that this town would try and engage with their management, if a suitable venue was identified, and ask them to play in Castlebar,” said Cllr Barrett.
“It would be a sign that the town is moving on and would be a positive story. They are a big international act and would draw people from all over Europe never mind this country. It would be a sign that Castlebar is a modern thriving town that can hold these events,” he added.
