Over 1,500 people waiting for driving test in western town

There is a large backlog of over 1,500 drivers waiting for the test in Tuam, Co Galway
There are currently 1,523 people waiting for driving tests in a large western town.
The Road Safety Authority provided the figures following a Parliamentary Question from the Aontú political party that revealed the backlog in Tuam, Co Galway A breakdown of the applicants found 222 people were deemed 'not eligible'.
This may have occurred because the tester has not received the cert from the driving instructor to confirm the driver has completed the 12 lessons.
A further 352 tests are paused which may happen when the instructor advises the applicant that they are not ready and need to do more practice.
There are 201 tests scheduled people and 748 others are waiting.
Aontú representative for Tuam, Luke Silke, has said he has been told the waiting time in Tuam is 22 weeks and if a person applied for the test in the area they would likely be called in April 2024.
