Objection lodged to new housing scheme in Mayo
An appeal has been made to An Comisiún Pleanála over Mayo County Council’s decision to grant planning permission for a 47-unit housing development in Ballina.
Thawside Ltd was given the green light to construct 32 three-bed semi-detached, six two-bed semi-detached and nine four-bed detached houses at Friarscourt, Laghtadawannagh, Killala Road, Ballina despite concerns raised by members of the Friarscourt Residents' Association.
The group of local residents had made a collective submission to the local authority citing a number of concerns, including the use of the existing roadway in the estate for construction traffic and the impact this could have on developments at pyrite-impacted houses in the area.
However, planning permission was granted by the local authority and the Friarscourt Residents' Association have now appealed the council's decision to An Comisiún Pleanála.
The applicant Thawside has had two previous planning applications for this site refused permission following appeals by residents in the existing Friarscourt estate. The first proposal was for 92 houses and the second was for a development consisting of 54 houses.
