Date confirmed for passenger shelter at Manulla Junction
Senator Mark Duffy confirmed the news today.
It is good news for Mayo rail passengers as a new bus shelter is set to be installed at Manulla Junction before the end of the year.
Senator Mark Duffy has confirmed that the shelter, which he has long advocated for, will be in place by November.
The new shelter will provide protection from the elements for passengers travelling from Ballina and Foxford who change trains at Manulla Junction when travelling on the Dublin to Westport line.
Senator Duffy welcomed the confirmation, saying it follows persistent campaigning and regular engagement through the Joint Oireachtas Transport Committee.
The Mayo-based Senator, a longtime advocate for public transport, also thanked Mary Considine, Chief Executive of Iarnród Éireann, and the rail company’s team for their constructive engagement and co-operation on the issue.
Senator Duffy said he is often contacted by rail passengers who have been affected by the lack of shelter at Manulla Junction.
“Passengers from Ballina and Foxford are being left exposed to the elements, subject to inclement weather conditions and then sitting on a train for several hours.
"It’s a situation that is unacceptable in this day and age, it’s something that I have fought hard for, and it’s great to finally see a solution being put in place.”
